ABOUT US
P55 MIRRORS is a mirror design studio founded in 2020 by Beata Ludwin and Łukasz Wołek in Toruń, Poland. They create unique mirrors and objects that blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
We share common interests and different sensibilities. We observe, we listen, we talk. We work together by clashing creatively. This is how our mirrors come into being - individually designed and developed and, therefore, one of a kind.
Their shared journey with art began at the Jozef Pankiewicz State High School of Fine Arts in Katowice. They both studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. Beata studied the conservation of painting and polychrome sculpture, while Łukasz focused on sculpture in the studio of Professor Maciej Szankowski. Their diverse experiences in visual and design activities have given rise to their collaborative work. Since 2022, they have been members of the NÓW. New Craft Poland Association.
We focus on mirrors because of their wealth of interesting visual, utilitarian, meaningful, and historical aspects. The contexts that emerge from the creative process, such as attention, flaw, time, pause, or controlled chance, also play an important role. We follow the matter. Our inspiration comes from deep curiosity, self-reflection, and fascination with the constant change process. Curiosity also applies to the materials we work with, sometimes suggesting new ways of exploring.
Our objective is to enhance the connection between users and objects by redefining the traditional concept of mirrors. Instead of considering them just as utilitarian devices, we acknowledge the various intricate aspects - the aesthetic, emotional, and symbolic importance of mirrors that significantly contribute to the user experience.
